Brenna Lemke Mrs. Knutti English 2 Accelerated 30 January 2023 A Deeper Look into Theodore Robert Bundy; An American Serial Killer Introduction: Theodore Robert Bundy, known to the public as Ted Bundy - one of the most infamous, notorious (“Ted''; Samuel) and “successful serial killers of all time” - changed the way law enforcement handled homicide investigations (Terranova). Bundy’s notible for the “ability to live a double life” and his horrific record of rapes and disturbing murders executed. (PIercy; Samuel). Bundy’s murder spree began around the year 1974; he attested to have murdered thirty, however he disclosed information to thirty-six while making connections to countless others (Ramsland). Bundy’s strained relationship with his grandfather caused him to block out the traumatic times and remember the decent ones (“Ted”; Ramsland). Bundy’s dissociative amnesia in this situation subconsciously affected his actions in his romantic life. Although Bundy claims he only remembers the happy memories of his grandfather, his grandfather verbally abused family members (“Ted”; Ramsland). In Bundy’s case, the media experienced hybristophilia: a sexual interest in and attraction to those who commit crimes. The media’s fascination with Bundy caused an uproar in the media.For example, Carol Ann Boone married Bundy during his second trial (“Ted”). She was so blinded by love - love meaning Bundy manipulating her to thinking he was innocent. Almost as if Bundy needed someone to believe in his innocence, so he had motivation to continue going.
