The start of how this average boy became part of what we know today as one of the most notorious serial killers that have lived Theodore Robert Cowell (Bundy) was born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont. His mother is Eleanor Louise Cowell, and he grew up with his grandparents. More commonly known as Lousie, she wanted to give Bundy up for adoption because he was the result of her being seduced by a war veteran. Bundy could never consider Lousie as his mother because the grandparents with whom they lived always referred to them as siblings. Bundy later stated that he always knew they weren't siblings. Growing up, Bundy and his family later moved to Washington, where he spent the rest of his childhood and all of his adolescence. The reason for the move was for Lousie and Theodore to get away from her parents. This resulted in a huge upset for Theodore, but he later grew into it. The longer they were in Washington, Louise met a man named Johnnie Bundy, a cook for the Army hospital, and this is where the name Bundy arises from. Theodore was no longer Theodore Cowell, but he was now Theodore (Ted) Bundy because of the marriage of Lousie and Johnnie (Kettler). So during the time he was in Washington, he went to school at Woodrow Wilson High School in Tacoma, where he graduated in 1965 (Gainsburg). Through his adolescent years, Bundy kept to himself and did not talk to others much. He also showed signs of sadistic behavior or viscousness toward others. These signs occurred when Bundy started watching porn, and he would lurk around women or watch them extremely carefully, and he would even spy through people's windows (SC5).
