Theodore "Ted" Bundy was one of the most notorious serial killers of the 20th century. His charm and intelligence made him somewhat of a celebrity during his trial and long after his execution in January of 1989. He was born in the shame of his mother, being told she was his sister when she gave birth out of wedlock. He was fascinated by the dark arts (macabre) as a child and drawn to knives. He studied at the University of Washington where he fell in love with a wealthy, pretty young woman from California. She had everything that he wanted and was devastated by their breakup. Many of his later victims resembled her. He often raped his victims before beating them to death. Sources say he started the rampage around 1974, becoming more outwardly confident. He often lured his victims into his car by pretending to be injured or asking for their help. Ted moved to Utah in 1974 to attend law school, and women began disappearing there too. The following year, he was pulled over by the police and arrested for possession of many burglary tools. In 1975, Bundy was arrested in the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, one of the few women to escape his clutches. He was found guilty, awaiting a one-to-fifteen-year jail sentence. Two years later, Bundy was indicted for murder of another woman. He bagan to act as his own lawyer and managed to escape the couthouse by jumping out a window. He was captured eight days later. In December 1977, Bundy escaped from custody again; climbing out of a hole in the ceiling of his cell. He was unnoticed for 15 hours and went to Florida. In January, 1978, Bundy broke into a sorority house at Florida State University. He attacked four young female residents, killing two. He then kidnapped and murdered a twelve-year-old girl named Kimberly. He was soon captured by police that
