Ted (Theodore) Bundy was a famous serial rapist and murderer in the 20th century. He was born in Burlington, Vermont in 1946. Across several states in the 1970s he raped and murdered many young women. Officially, he was connected to 36 murders but some believe he committed more than 100. Bundy was born to an unwed 22 year old mother with extremely religious parents. This was, of course, one of the worst things she could have done to her parents in their view. His father is still unknown but the theories are an Air Force veteran without record by the name Bundy’s mother claimed or her own father whom was a violent abuser. They seemed to have a normal middle class family but Bundy was interested in knives and things involving death at an early age. He was book smart but did not get along with classmates. Later he became was a peeping tom and would steal things from people without thought or regret. At college he was dating a rich, influential woman and he was happy until she broke it off with him because he wasn’t living up to his potential. He was extremely upset with her and this is just before the time the crimes began. After this period he began turning his life around and helping on campaign staff for the Republican Party. This opened doors to a law school where he attended and began dated the rich girlfriend again. It is still unknown exactly where and when Bundy began killing because his story kept changing for each person he talked to. Based on his answers some believe he began killing as a teenager as some loose evidence shows he may have abducted an eight year old when he was fourteen. The earliest crimes that could be confirmed done by him were when he was twenty-seven, after he had “mastered the skills needed” according to him. The first murder like this was done on an eighteen year old college student whom he beat up with a pipe and sexually assaulted with a speculum. She had extreme internal injuries and permanent brain damage after being unconscious for ten days but she did survive. All his victims were attractive, young, white women but were otherwise unrelated. The police were unable to find physical evidence at the crime scenes. The police didn’t know what to do but noted the victims were taken at night, near construction, within a week of exams, wore slacks or blue jeans and people reported seeing a tan VW Bug with a man wearing a sling at the crime scene. He decapitated twelve of his victims and kept some of their heads as mementos. He would sometimes perform sexual acts on their dead bodies until they decomposed.
