I believe that “A Horseman in the Sky” doesn’t have a resolution. I doubt you can prove me wrong, here's the reason why. In this essay i'm going to point out the reasons why I believe that there is no resolution. Here's some background information: “A Horseman in the Sky” is about a son(Carter Druse) who went to fight for the Union during the civil war, in the area of West Virginia. To do what he believes is his duty, he leaves his family which were slave owners on a plantation. During his duty of watching, he found a man on the back of a horse. He questioned if he should shoot or not, he decided it was his duty to shoot, so he did. The horse ran off the cliff, with the man on it. The father was on the horse, when it ran off the cliff. The only problem is that we don’t know if he survived or not. Like what the text says “thereabout he expected to find his man; and thereabout he naturally failed. Therefore he could not find the man or the horse. Even if the man survived we would not know if he died later or not. There’s too many “if’s” to find a clear answer. This evidence points to the uncertainty of Carter Druse’s father's death.
