A Leatherback Mother Turtle Short Story

293 Words2 Pages
A leatherback mother turtle lies motionless in the warm waters of the Indian ocean. She knows she has to go somewhere special like she'd done many times before. It was time to lay her eggs. This is the story of her journey to home. She swims though the vast ocean, navigating her way through dangerous waters. Up ahead, she sees something white reflecting the water. Curious by nature, she swims towards it. The fishing net brushes past her flipper, catching it. She struggles, and she pulls free of the net. The sudden movements attract a nearby shark which circles the turtle. The shark goes to strike but the turtle is protected by its hard shell. The shark eventually gives up and swims away. A passing canoe with two poachers spies the turtle.
