I was given Act 1 Scene 1in the Play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In this scene Egeus tries to convince the Duke to force Hermia to marry Lysander. Out of the multitude of opportunities there were to take we had Hermia hold Love letters from Lysander that Egeus would take from her and tear up then stomp on in front of everyone. Another opportunity we would of taken was a brief fight between Lysander and Demetrius; No punches would be thrown but they would be in each other’s face and there would be a lot of tension.To end the fight we would have Hermia pull away Lysander, and Egeus pull away Demitrius; To symbolize each person protection the one they favor. We Also tried to keep the duke as inactive as possible because to me he sees them as lower class so he wants to be as non involved as possible.
For Props and costuming we would have given Egues, Lysander, and Demetrius Togas to try and show not only the time frame but also the setting. We would have given Hermia a dress to show her higher up status and to set her apart from the male actors. The Duke of Athens would most likely have been wearing a white toga with minimal designs and gold accents to make him stand out against the others and to show his higher up status. One of the obvious scenes was the fight; While not on script I believe it accurately showed the tension between Lysander and Demetrius and to a degree it foreshadowed the bigger fights in later acts. Another key scene was when Theseus, Egeus and Demetrius all walk away. This was important because we would of had hermia on the ground crying while Lysander conforted her. This showed that Hermia had lost the argument against her father and that her father cared more about who she married then her own feelings and if she disobeyed him she would be put to
