Between 1939 and 1945 widespread military conflict occurred. This event was and is known today as World War II. World War II was a very influential part of our history as it shaped the course that our world has taken today. Known as the largest armed conflict in history, the war involved more countries than any other known war and resulted in the introduction of dangerous new weapons such as the atomic bomb. Over 60 million people died, which meant that over 2.5% of the world’s population was lost. The bombings at Darwin and Pearl Harbour both occurred during WWII and both had results ending in disaster.
