In act 1, scene 1 of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lysander said, “The course of true love never did run smooth. . .” (Shakespeare 1.1.134). In the play there are four main characters, Lysander, Demetrius, Helena, and Hermia. Their love story is very complicated, it involves romance and magic. In this play there are things that happened that could happen in real life today.
Lysander and hermia are in love but are not aloud to get married. In act 1, scene 1, Hermia’s dad said, ‘Stand forth, Demetrius. My noble lord, this man hath my consent to marry her. Stand forth, Lysander. My gracious duke, this man hath bewitched the bosom of my child (Shakespeare 1.1.24). In life now the man is supposed to ask the woman’s father for permission to marry his daughter, sometimes the father does not like you and tells you no. Hermia and Lysander are so in love with each other Hermia told Helena she is running into the woods to marry Lysander (Shakespeare 1.1.79). Helena then told Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander running into the woods so Demetrius goes looking for Hermia (Shakespeare 2.1.195). Oberon and Titania get into an argument so Oberon put the flower potion in her eyes to make her fall in love with someone nasty (Shakespeare 3.2.35). So Titania is now so in love with the donkey and Oberon is just sitting there watching. Titania and the donkey get married and Titania’s fairies are getting annoyed (Shakespeare 3.1.90). Oberon is finally done watching Titania embarrass herself so he puts the flower potion back in her eyes while she is sleeping. Titania wakes up and sees there is a donkey in her bed and kicks him out, and is in love with Oberon again (Shakespeare 3.2 .45).
