There are many types of love in the world. Some are portrayed in A Midsummer Night”s Dream. They are used multiple times by William Shakespeare. Almost all of the characters get involved in some type of love. Just to sum up , they are forced love, romantic love, and fake love. One of the types portrayed in the play in forced love. Egeus wants his daughter to marry Demetrius, but she refuses to because she loves another man. “Full of vexation I come, with complaint against my child, My daughter Hermia.” said Egeus to the Duke of Athens, Theseus. In the play, Multiple characters are put under a spell that causes them to fall in love with the first person they see after waking up. One example of this is Titania. She is put under the spell and wakes up to Bottom, who has the head of a donkey, and falls in love immediately. “What angel awakes me from my flowery bed?” Said Titania. (Shakespeare 3.1 124-125) Puck is the one messing with all of the characters and putting the spell on them. But it isn’t only Puck’s idea. Oberon told Puck to do this to the other characters. “Fetch me that flower; the herb I shewed thee once.” said Oberon. There are a few different couples actually have true love. One couple is Lysander and Hermia. They run away to Lysander’s aunts house just to be together. “I have a widow aunt, a dowager of great revenue, and she hath no child. From Athens is her house remote seven leagues, And she respects me as her only son. There, gentle Hermia, may I marry thee.” said Lysander to Hermia. (Shakespeare 1.1 157-161) They run away because Hermia is being forced to marry another man. If she does not escape, she will be killed. Another couple that has true love is Theseus and Hippolyta, who are getting married. “Here is the scroll of every man's name which is thought fit, through all Athens, to play in our interlude before the duke and the duchess, on his wedding-day at night.” said Quince, who is in charge of the performance at the wedding. (Shakespeare 1.2 4-7) They are one of the only couples that don’t have any issues with their love. The last couple with true love is Oberon and Titania. They have a few problems though. They get into a fight about affairs and Oberon tries to take the child Titania has been trusted to take care of. Titania refuses. “Not for thy fairy kingdom.” says Titania. In the end they make up and live happily ever
