Summary Chapter one

The Chapter starts with the description of the Younger’s Apartment in Chicago, it is described as a very small, cramped apartment, furnished with worn down furniture and very expensive for the small room.
There are three rooms, two Bedrooms and one living room/kitchen, the mother of the family, Mama or Lena, sleeps in one of the rooms with her twenty year old daughter Beneatha, her other son Walter sleeps in one room with his wife Ruth, and their son Travis sleeps in the living room.
The bathroom is not in the apartment, but on the hall and is shared with another apartment.
After the description of the apartment and the residents, it is describes how Ruth is the first one to wake up and prepare for the Day, whilst waking her son …show more content…

He then proceeds to give his son two fifty cent coins and tells him to buy himself something nice after school, and also allows him to work after school, which was another reason Travis and Ruth were arguing.
After Travis left for school, Walter proposes a business plan to his wife, in which she should convince Lena to give him the money from Cheque which is coming in for Lena from an insurance company, and, since Ruth is not fond of that plan, they start to argue again.
Whilst they are arguing Beneatha, Walters’s younger sister comes out of her room and starts to argue with Walter about the fact that she wants to study medicine and that the fees for that wil cut in Lena’s cheque.
Beneatha then argues that its Lena’s money, and she can do whatever she wants with the money, and not what Walter wants, who then leaves to go to work, and that’s when Lena comes out and says that they all worry too much about the money, and that she already has plans for a part of the
