In 2011 the rehabilitation center Passages Malibu put out a commercial with their spokesman Pax Prentiss, making a very bold statement that “this is not a twelve-step program, this works”. Many people have found little success using Alcoholics Anonymous, or Narcotics Anonymous, the advertisement is saying that there is another way. The commercial begins with a large gate opening to a clear blue sky. The whole tone of the commercial is very therapeutic and inviting, which is telling the viewer if you are tired of your chaotic lifestyle come to Passages Malibu, and find peace. The advertisement has multiple examples of ethos, logos, and pathos. The main claim is that their treatment center is unlike other rehabilitation centers, and if you come to their program you will learn how to live life without drugs and alcohol the Passages Malibu way. …show more content…

He states that “I was an addict for ten years, now I’m not”, This statement alone is very bold, the majority of the people in the drug and alcohol community believe that you are born with a genetic predisposition, and that you are born with the disease of addiction. Someone who is struggling with an addiction and does not like the normal twelve step approach, would become very intrigued, when hearing this. Pax Prentiss says that “at Passages Malibu, we treat, and heal, the underlying causes of addiction, so you can live an addiction free life”. What Pax is saying is, if you come to Passages Malibu, they can tell you the things that cause your addictive behaviors, and how you can learn to stop them. With most of the traditional Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous approach, you are told to go to Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics anonymous meetings as much as possible.
