Treatment of addictions can successful in many ways, and are stepping stones for curing the addiction. However most declare a treatment unsuccessful when a relapse occurs. This is not the case, as the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIH) puts it, “Unfortunately, when relapse occurs many deem treatment a failure. This is not the case: Successful treatment for addiction typically requires continual evaluation and modification as appropriate, similar to the approach taken for other chronic diseases. For example, when a patient is receiving active treatment for hypertension and symptoms decrease, treatment is deemed successful, even though symptoms may recur when treatment is discontinued. A method that is successful is a change in life, and environment. This doesn't involve any treatment, or outside involvement, just the need and drive for change. Another method that is often successful with some addicts is just motivation, and outlook of the future. If they often ask themselves where there life is heading, and envision the possible hell they may create if they keep their addiction alive.
