Some of the primary causes of the ICU nurses’ treatment of Jill can be attributed to their demanding jobs which include their patients’ medical condition supplemented by anxiety and stress (O’ Connell et la., 2000, p. 603). Jill’s treatment has to do with her personal characteristics because of her inability to maintain her moral integrity and preserve mutual respect in her work environment. This can be evidenced by her statement, “she began to question her career decision.” One of ethical competencies is Moral integrity (Honesty, Truthfulness & truthtelling, Benevolence, Wisdom, and Moral courage). The new graduate in Laab’s Study described a person with moral integrity as a person practicing virtue ethics, “acting like, becoming , and being a certain kind of person who was honest, trustworthy, consistently doing and standing up for what is right, despite the consequences” (Butts & Rich, 2016, p. 74). Jill should speak up and report her intimidation to the administrators of the hospital. If her case is not handled properly, she can report to American Nurses Association with documented evidence. According to ( Butts & Rich, 2016) ANA Code of Ethics, provision 6 states, “the nurse, through individual and collective effort, establishes, maintains, and improves the ethical environment of the work setting and conditions of employment that are conducive to safe, quality health care” (p. 478). 3. Jill can transfer the aggression to her patients which can lead to poor quality of care. In addition, it can result to medical errors due to lack of Jill’s concentration on her Job.
