Upon conducting a phone interview with my previous manager from AT&T, I learned about the role that training plays in the company. I was also informed about the ideas pertaining to the future of the company in regards to the direction of training for AT&T. The individual who I interviewed has worked for AT&T for approximately eight years and has witnessed and experienced the various changes in training throughout the years. He explained the initial training methods from an older system as well as the new training roles that occur with new systems at AT&T.

It has been mentioned that web-based training initiatives are “designed to contribute to a company’s strategic business objectives” (Noe, 2013, p. 325). Web-based learning also focuses on employees and it is designed to be useful to a larger audience as opposed to traditional training programs. My manager mentioned that web-based learning allows training to be delivered at a faster pace and to more employees in a shorter timeframe. Now that AT&T utilizes web-based training, they are able to train their employees geographically and dispersed to employees in various places. During the interview, my manager mentioned the effectiveness of web-based learning. He indicated that specifically with AT&T, online training is effective in regards to knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Web-based training also has the potential to motivate employees to participate especially if they may be shy or may not want to speak in front of others.
