During the Salem Witch Trials a lot of people were accused of using witchcraft. As a result many people died for other people’s lies, rumors, and selfishness. There is one person that really caused and is most to blame for all the chaos, her name is Abigail. Abigail is to blame for all that has happened in the Witch Trials, the reason for that is because of all the accusing and lying she has done. In addition, it all leads up to her for instance, she used a doll to accuse people of witchcraft.
In today’s society you are innocent until proven guilty. Could you imagine it being the other way around? Many people were wrongly accused of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials. It is crazy how things were, so strict about the religions long ago. The times of “The Crucible” everyone would be guilty of being a witch. According i think Abigail William is responsible for witchcraft. Reasons are is because, one she have lied to everyone in the village just to make herself innocent. Second, she have broken many rules and because of that it made her look guilty.
She caused proctor to cheat on his wife and then eventually causes Proctor to die. And she and other girls had to go to court because they lied about doing the witchcraft. She cannot excuse or pardoned because the outside forces “made” her the way she is because the forces are not going to change her. The deaths of one hundred ninety-two men and women, but who is to blame for this careless act? The witch trials that occurred in 1692 were written about in the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller; he recapped the trials that were caused by one girls rumors and jealousy. I believe that the blame is not put on one character, but the entire town of Salem. According to dictionary.com the word villain means, “a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot.” The villain's name in this story may be known as Abigail, but she manages to put the blame of witchcraft on the entirety of the town while getting her name out of the mix.
Abigail uses the fact that every person shes accused has been a witch to secure her position as a trust worth witness in court. As seen when the suspension is raised to her, Abigail says, “I have been hurt, Mr. Danforth; I see my blood running out! I have been near to murdered every day because I have done my duty pointing out the Devil’s people -- and this is my reward? To be mistrusted, denied, questioned like a --” (113). She uses the fact that there is a perceived danger in callout witches as one can try to kill her because they feel threated or that she 's been hurt by witchcraft when it was just self-inflicted wounds.
She manipulated the other convicted girls so she wouldn't be the only one to convince the court. The girls had no choice but to follow abigail because they knew the things she can come up with and were scared of that. In the court Abigail pretended to be possessed and collapsed to the floor and the other girls did the same. She deceived the whole court with this act, a clever tactic on her
To clarify, Abigail is the one who is “practicing witchcraft” and the one who is accusing innocent people that she does not want alive. Abigail falsely accused Elizabeth of witchcraft when seeing Mary Warren, Elizabeth’s
Secondly she stabbed herself and claimed that Elizabeth Proctor did it to her. Both were signs of being a witch back in the story. In the beginning of the story Abigail and her pals were in the woods dancing, and she had put chicken blood on herself. These were all signs that she was cooperating with the Devil and other spirits, this made others
The True Witch Abigail in The Crucible is a selfish woman filled with jealousy, hate, and mischief. She is the antagonist of the story, starting all the witch trials for the purpose of getting revenge on Elizabeth. Although she is the antagonist, she is not the most rounded character. She falls a little flat, and doesn’t show many emotions besides the outrageous ones, but she is a good contrast to John Proctor.
Abigail is a mirror reflection to this point she is extremely talented to convince her innocence in a false situation. In the play crucible this was proved by many actions. Abigail started witchcraft; she was the one leading girls and convincing them to come with her. Yet she acted innocent in front of Danforth and reverend hale they believed her innocence and actually looked up on her. While witch crafting she held a dead chicken and called on Elizabeth to die hoping her wish would come true proctor knew about the situation, again it didn’t change his feelings towards her.
In a small village called Salem, witchcraft and sorcery exist, however everyone is pointing fingers but not a single soul knows who is actually to blame for this nonsense. During this time period of hysteria, there are multiple scenes that are very questionable due to one person and one person only. Abigail is the one most responsible for the hysteria and witchcraft in Salem. She threatens the group of girls that accompanied her in the woods while they all danced. She has also lied about many things on multiple occasions in which causes an extreme amount of suspicion.
and so she was fired by Elizabeth. So abigail accused Elizabeth to be a witch so she would be hanged. My thesis statement is that during the salem witch trials people were accused of witchery based on personality, looks, race, and if they liked each other or not but not based on actual crime.
But the mainly because everyone thinks she is a witch. Due to the women in the court room continuously repeating it with details to support, making everybody believe Mary warren is a witch. Mary was the one caught in the dancing in the forest and being accused of witch craft. When Mary was in court she admitted she was witch craft but, also made everyone to think it was an act. In act 2 page 80 Mary Warren is pressured by Proctor to go to court and confess that Abigail is guilty.
