Sixteen years ago tragedy hit America with a great deal of grief and fear, as the United States wasn't engaged in any wars nor heard of these terrorists; Isis (Margolin n.pg.). The time after 9/11 people still had fear of what could come next from this group of Muslims and why they were doing this. To escape the fear of feeling scared of the place the people of America call home many blamed any Muslim that looked as if they were apart of Isis just so that the people could feel safe again with having all Muslims accused and kept away from the United States. This was the same as it was in the Salem Witch Trials or also known as the Crucible back in the 1600s. The higher up people in the town accused innocent lower people who seemed to be acting weird or to not be worshipping God and the people were then to be hung if they didn't confess of being a witch even if none of them were. The purpose towards this was for the people of the town to feel safe again and not have to worry of anyone being a “witch”. Some rumors that started this whole witchcraft was with the name of Abigail Williams, she was one of the higher people in the society of the town. Whatever came out of her mouth or how she acted the town believed her. Williams would scapegoat the problem of getting accused and blame innocent people especially when she told the court that Tituba a lower class lady in the town did something to her. She claimed, “She comes to me every night to go and drink blood” (Miller pg. 43). In this scene Abigail is telling the court how Tituba forced her to do witchery things like drink blood and dance around naked when in fact she did that on her own but she doesn't want people to know so her reputation looks bad and that she could be a witch. Abigail is scapegoating this problem and saving herself and gaining power by bringing other people in it to be accused and die for the problems that she fears. Then there is Mary Warren who Abigail accused, yet when she was innocent and feared of getting hanged that she frightfully announced to Abigail, “What'll we do? The village is out! I just come from the farm; the whole country's talkin' witchcraft! They'll be callin' us witches, Abby! Abby, we've got to tell”(Miller pg. 22). She wanted to tell the truth so she would not get killed but by telling Abby this she then stabbed her in the back towards the end and accused Mary Warren to be a witch.
