The film Unbroken honors Louie Zamperini’s ability to persevere the utmost cruel situations. Unbroken was a fairly accurate representation of Louie Zamperini’s life and his survival during World War II, with only minor alterations such as timing. Overall, the director, Angelina Jolie, was not able to capture every detail accurately, yet the details altered only reinforced Louie Zamperini’s extraordinary story of resilience and perseverance. Angelina Jolie begins the film with Zamperini peeking up the skirts of girls in order to portray his troublesome nature, which was an accurate attribute of his personality that allowed him to withstand the dire circumstances he encountered as a prisoner of war.
I learned that basketball should be seen more as a selfless game rather than focusing on themselves. Phil Jacksons lifelong quest to bring enlightenment to the game of basketball even though it is about competiveness. It all starts with off the court exercises and activity to help build the team chemistry. The more chemistry and teamwork that a team has the better they will play
This ultimately paid off when we were heading deep into the playoffs. My team suddenly faced the problem of some older players going out due to cramps; however, the 13 year old players were able to step up and fill in those positions. Since I gave them an insight to how to play the game intelligently, they fit right in. After winning the tournament I realized how I was a leader both on and off the field. The 13 year olds came up to me and thanked me for helping them out and making them feel better after they were down.
I did not let the fact that I’d never played basketball to stop me from joining the team. Back then our coach would always tell us to work hard and do our very best. Now that I am a 8th grader and a starter on the varsity basketball team, I have especially applied this. I have also encouraged my teammates to work hard at everything they do, to do their very best, and to never back down even when we are not doing well. When my fellow
Perseverance is one word to describe how I have accomplished and succeeded in every goal I have committed myself to. Having the opportunity to apply for the National Honors Society is one goal I have so far accomplished this year. This not only demonstrates my hard work in different areas, including academics and clubs, but also my passion for helping others and my community. I think my experience with leadership and volunteer work will not only help me flourish, but also help my peers to flourish outside and inside the Society. Leadership is one of the pillars that the National Honors Society is built upon.
I kept going for the guy next to me performing to the best to his ability. Success was the result of all the hard relentless work done throughout June into August. I acknowledged that my team had a good group of seniors who were high character student-athletes I spent most of childhood with. Ultimately finishing with a record of 3 wins and 7 loses taught me many lessons on becoming a better person and
That’s why it was hard at first is because I was used to the way my old teachers taught things and everything was so different for me. When I was little I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be. At first I wondered why I even tried out for the team because I had to be at the school for practice at six in the morning, Monday through Saturday. But I kept telling myself that change is good and that things might be hard but things will always work itself out no matter how hard it is. So to this day I’m so glad that I kept telling myself that
And I learned that it takes hard work and dedication to conquer tough situations in life, to never let one roadblock change how the future plays out, and that the trick to life is to live in the moment. For it is a mystery when it could all
My most defining experiance and achievement took place between the months of April and October of 2015, this experiance was caddying at Nakoma Golf Club and my greatest achievement was recieving Rookie Caddy of the Year. Sunday March 1st was the day I called the Nakoma for the first time, I had just gotten out of open gyms for baseball and went on the phone. Around April 3rd I recived a call from Nakoma apolgizing for my unreturned calls and that caddy training would start the following Saturday. I showed up fourty five minutes earlier then the arrival time, this is when I would meet the other caddys and bag room emplloyes. The next five Sundays I went through the caddy training and at the end of that i was a certified caddy.
Growing up in the southside of queens’ public school is the typical for most African American in the neighborhood. But of course, my mom wanted to make sure I wasn’t just typical so for high school I had attend a private school. I was very eager to join a new school but also nervous but to get rid of nerves I joined various after school activities to meet new people and feel comfortable at school. I joined the girls’ basketball, I quickly noticed that I had been the only African American girl on the team, but I didn’t let that stop me from trying to improve my game and make new friends. As the basketball season went on I had noticed that not much of the girls would talk to me, but I continued to rub it off and made the best out of it.
My determination to get better and overcome my obstacles paid off my senior year when I awarded second-team
We won some games, and we lost games, but we did it together. In the beginning of the season, rumors of doubt spread about our team being too short, or not good enough. A Lewistown High School team had not won a Regional Championship since the year 2002, but against all doubts, I knew my team could win. Not only had I seen their mistakes, along with my own, throughout this season, but I also watched them grow as athletes and individuals.
I started to practice at my house—it was the only hoop available for me at the time. Everyday, I would go outside and just shoot as many shots as I can so, I could make my form better. A few weeks of practicing, I started to see progress in my form—I made more shots than usual. Since I thought I was getting better, I decided to ask my parents if they could put me in a basketball team. My parents agreed without any hesitation.

Some teaching me new lessons that may assist me in the future when similar problems arise. For example, three years ago my team made their way onto the court, one early morning. It was the final playoff day that would determine where we placed in the tournament. We had been
