I thought to myself, “Was it all worth it?” and quickly dismissing this idea. I came to realize that I didn’t need something solid reference to this achievement, that the knowledge that I could accomplish anything with determination and a little creativity was
The two stories called Michelle Kwan and Mae Jemison are similar because they both share the same theme of perseverance and they both follow their dream. Mae Jemison is the first African American woman who went into space. Michelle Kwan is a ice skater who took a big step to her dream. I will show you how these stories are the similarities and differences. I will show you how they are similar first.
Leon survived some of the worst experiences. He showed grit and determination throughout the story. Leon lived in Narekwa and then moved to Krakow in hopes of a better life. The Nazis then took over and he goes to a concentration camp. Leon showed that he could almost handle anything they could throw at him.
Perseverance is one word to describe how I have accomplished and succeeded in every goal I have committed myself to. Having the opportunity to apply for the National Honors Society is one goal I have so far accomplished this year. This not only demonstrates my hard work in different areas, including academics and clubs, but also my passion for helping others and my community. I think my experience with leadership and volunteer work will not only help me flourish, but also help my peers to flourish outside and inside the Society. Leadership is one of the pillars that the National Honors Society is built upon.
Perseverance. Leadership. Service. Scholarship. Words I strive to live by everyday.

The Importance of Perseverance At many times in people’s lives, they consider giving up. This is also true for Santiago, the protagonist in Paulo Coelho's fantasy novel The Alchemist. As I walked through Wahlert Catholic, I looked around to familiar faces and thought to myself this is the year I will put myself out there and try new things, and make new friends. Freshman Orientation, I sat in bleachers and thought to myself, What I am going to do with myself this year? To all freshman, sometimes you walk in not knowing what you may do but you will figure it out eventually. I made my decision on Golf. My freshman year, I played the JV team for the first time, before that I never played on a team.
According to Melissa Balmain in “Bouncing Back,” two people who faced adversity with resilience are Howie Truong and Celeste Peterson. Although they have different stories they both went through their own trials. Howie Truong’s wife was killed after an accident when they had tried to flee Vietnam postwar; after Truong’s wife was found ashore he spent thirty-four years wondering what had happened to his son. Truong losing his wife and son made him feel guilty, the guilt made Truong drink away his problems every night by drinking himself to sleep. Truong realized that he had a role in his family and that he needed to stop drinking.
The Influence of Grit and Growth Mindset in one’s life In Eduardo Briceno’s view “The key to success is not simply effort, focus, or resilience, it is the growth mindset that creates them.” Grit is the quality that enables individuals to work hard enough and stick to their long-term passions and goals. Growth mindset is the intelligence that can be developed and the ability to accept debacle. Two special features that will help one achieve in academics, personal life, and career are grit and growth mindset.
The Importance of Hard Work The age old question is what is more important, hard work, or talent, most people would respond with talent without thinking about it for more than a few seconds. There would only be a select few that would say hard work, I being one of those few. Hard work is more important than talent because people that work hard are willing to learn new things and excel, whereas people with talent will only stick to the one thing they are good at. There is also no such thing as talent, only deliberate practice.
What is Perseverance good for? Well, it is good for many things. In Freedom Writers, it is good for holding on to what you want best, and for having other people help you with this. Erin Gruewell, a teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School, has a lot of perseverance during the movie. She never gives up, even at her toughest times, and her goals get completed for her doing this.
If these two people had been rejected, you would assume that the more talented of the two has a better chance at getting the lead role in the play the next summer, right? This is where you may be wrong. Having perseverance can often be better than actually being good at something. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean that you will always succeed in this field. That also means that just cause you may not be good at something now, that you can't be good at it later.
success. Tinto developed a theory to explain student retention called Tinto’s Theory of Student Departure. Tinto’s (1993) theory of student departure, will also serve as the theoretical framework of this study.
I’ve been golfing since I was a little kid. I’ve experienced many highs and lows, and have created many friendships and memories playing the game I love. Golf can teach you many lessons, if you pay attention. One of the lessons I’ve learned is that it takes perseverance and hard work if you want to excel at something. I started hitting golf balls at the age of 2 with my dad and older brother.
