South Asian American men are typically known for being nerdy, computer savvy or threatening terrorists. In the twenty first century times have changed. They have evolved and no longer fit this stereotype of effeminate men as an entire race. As a way to prevent this from continuing on for centuries to come, they’re making a comeback. Desi Hoop Dreams is a book about how these Asian American men of the twenty first century are reinventing themselves as athletic, aggressive all American men.

Intro: As a basketball player, you may think it’s all about you, but it’s not it’s a team sport. You lose and you win as a team. In The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, you learn that. You learn how to face adversity not only on the court but also in the real world.
Finding unique ways to encourage grown men making millions of dollars to play a game seems like a simple concept, however we have seen many struggle to do just that over the years. Jackson creatively found ways to extract the desired changes from his players. Specifically, when dealing with Shaquille O’Neil, Jackson told him not to be afraid of Allen Iverson’s penetration move which resulted in Shaq stepping up and reducing Iverson’s impact for the rest of the game (Jackson, 2013, p. 227) Another time, Jackson told the press that Shaq wasn’t playing well because his toe hurts and although Shaq came back with a big game, he also responded negatively towards Jackson in his own interview (Jackson, 2013, p.

Diehm builds this credibility by not only giving out facts, but also by explaining the significance of these facts. These facts show that Diehm knows what she is talking about, this because Diehm uses quotes from the coach and other coaches in the team’s division to explain the team’s issues and successes from a non-views side. Using quotes from the coach shows the audience that Diehm is not just an avid viewer, but active in all that this basketball team does. Diehm also shows her expertise by describing facts rather than just stating them. When describing the point distribution across the 111-game streak, Diehm explains the significance of the “core four” players and what it means that they each have scored over a thousand points in the past 111 games.
In the book Hoops, by Walter Deon Myers, there are small conflicts that are all apart of a main conflict. The main character Lonnie Jackson, faces conflicts involving his coach that he was prepared for. The main conflict Lonnie goes through is that coach Cal has a past of gambling, drinking, and is not a good mentor. Coach Cal went to someone in his past to fix the problems caused by his gambling.
I read the book Night Hoops, by: Carl Deuker. This book is about a boy named Nick that is dealing with some problems that are more than just basketball. He meets a boy names Trent Dawson who he was not too fond of at first, Trent is going through a lot more than Nick is in his home life, so Nick takes Trent under his wing to help keep him out of trouble. But at first Trent seems to resist and says he doesn’t need help. He ends up running out every night with his brother to get into some trouble.
Focus on mastering the basics such as simple transition offense, where the players must core a lay-up without dribbling in less than 5 seconds, or a teamwork ball movement where everyone must make a pass before anyone gets to
My teammates and coaches have made a huge impact on me as well. They taught me that if we truly wanted something we can only achieve it by working together. Teamwork is key in a group sport. If you all aren't working together it will be nearly impossible to get the job done.
Selfish players have little part in championship teams, players must be willing to follow game plans and play team defense or they will hurt the odds of victory for the team. Coach Rose also emphasizes the importance of unselfishness as one of his five key principles in the beginning of his book (Rose, 2004, p. 2). In a recent writing done about the most selfish players in the NBA, only one of them has ever won an NBA Finals (Top 5 most selfish players in the NBA, 2013). Last season’s San Antonio Spurs are a great example of how unselfish play can lead to an NBA Final’s victory. They were outmatched in talent by their opponents, the Miami Heat, but they were the top rated NBA team in assists and this unselfish play and exquisite passing allowed them to win the NBA Finals (Table
This week I learned about topics related to shooting form, dribbling, and layups. I watched two videos by Howard Elite Basketball and ILovebasketballTV on how to get better shooting form. I learned key points like how there’s no single perfect shooting form and that everyone 's form is unique. I also learned that you generate power from your lower body, and that you should have a
