Proper Accountability in Nursing Profession When a patient is admitted to any hospital, care facilities, or even home care proper safety is the big issue of today. The importance of the main attributes in the nursing profession is safe care when the patient and yourself is a part of the working environment. Nurses are defined as a great significance to the healthcare profession and it is necessary to show safety and to be safe when dealing or providing for the patients. Accountability is the ability to take control of your own actions. Nurses are accountable to patients, their families, patients care, learning, and the nursing profession. “Accountability is the key to increasing trust, reducing fear, and improving morale and performance, and should be the basis for establishing a culture of trust, support, and dedication to excellence.” Battié, R., & Steelman, V. M. (2014). Nurses are responsible for taken actions on behalf of patients when a patient cannot communicate based on the trust that patient has for the nurse. Due to nurse’s ability to understand patients culture, the nurse will be able to help patient discuss any important situation before it takes place. The working conditions can affect the ability of the patients getting the proper care because the nurses maybe not giving their all. For example, long shifts can cause stress which could threaten patient’s safety. “One thing that can be effective on the patient’s attitude about safety is the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire. It is specially developed for inpatient care, there are thirty-one questions that is discussed about the work climate and safety climate of the dimension of the staff team.
