People covering up their hidden truth can be catastrophic at times and will do permanent damage to themselves and the people around them. In Act 3 Scene 4, an intense discussion broke out when Violet reveals the truth, “I knew the whole time Bev and Mattie Fae were carrying on. Charlie shoulda known too if he wasn’t smoking all that grass” (Letts 133). Although Violet and Mattie Fae knew the truth beforehand, they both sealed their mouth shut and kept this secret to themselves. In Act 3 Scene 1, Barbara has just been informed by Violet’s sister, Mattie Fae, “Little Charles is not your cousin. He’s your brother. He’s your blood brother. He is not your cousin. He is your blood brother. Half brother. He’s your father’s child. Which means that he is Ivy’s brother” (Letts 113). However, Barbara still hid the truth behind because she could not have harmed her beloved sister by revealing it. On the other side, Mattie Fae knew it was unsound, but she never took the time to discuss this complicated situation with Ivy and her son Little Charles. The complication which leads to a mass of conflict between characters ends up deconstructing the whole family. Hidden truth provoke the tragedy of Ivy and caused the undoubtful separation of the lovers. As the ending approaches, shedding tears, Ivy yelled, “You …show more content…
