In his article “Opinion: Proposed police reforms come from all corners, cover broad range”, Ken Armstrong ulitizes rhetoric techniques of ethos and pathos to convey in the necessity of heighted police reform across its regulations, among America. Proposals, express the necessity for inevitable change among the regulation of the national police department, “have come from scholars...and the police themselves”, those who have experienced the flaws that derive from the lack of organization among the police force in America, as they live their daily lives (Armstrong, 2016, paragraph 3). This sense of credibility that Armstrong conveys that fueled his ideas of police reform among American society, emphasizes his use of ethos to portray the importance
When it comes to the topic of police reform, many agree that our country is long overdue for it, however the questions is how exactly do we, as a nation, go about changing one of the most rigid power structures that exist in the country. While some believe that reform must come from within the individually flawed police departments, others argue that the entire criminal justice system needs an overhaul. An analysis of Ta-Nehisi Coates essay “The Myth of Police Reform” reveals that the complex issues of police shootings of minors (especially African Americans) and how difficult it may be to change these problems. In “The Myth of Police Reform” the author exemplifies the use of logos, ethos and pathos therefore making the argument effective.
Peel initially regarded the police as a patrolling or crime prevention service. Joyce (2011)
I think is was definitely beneficial for your participation in the British law enforcement, as it probably gave you a great internal glimpse on seeing if the laws could have been politically oriented. It was interesting that just prior progressive era government agents began cracking down on political corruption within the police. Roosevelt's committee found that there was widespread corruption within the New York Police Department, and actually fired a large part of their force and rejecting those recommended by politicians. Even though at the time this didn't exactly make an immediate transformation, I believe that the Lexow Commission made a lasting impact for agencies to be more accountable for corruption. Likewise, I think law enforcement
These challenges shaped the evolution of police departments, prompting them to adapt, strategize, and reform, constantly reshaping their approach to maintaining the peace. This historical panorama provides an invaluable context for understanding the police departments of today. The twin ideals of authority and service persist, albeit in more complex and plural societies. Today's law enforcement agencies grapple with the same challenges, albeit amplified by technological advances and societal changes.
Militarization of police is an important modern concern within the criminal justice discipline. Many argue that the formation of special units within the police department has greatly aided in this militarization of police. These special units, including the Bomb Squad and SWAT Team, may contribute to the increased police force across the United States. Proponents of the militarization believe that police should use what they find suitable to protect the community and themselves from danger. However, opponents maintain that the cost to supply units with equipment is extremely high and that by arming police with military weapons breaks police-community relations.
There are many principles that came with Sir Robert Peel. The purpose of the police force is to prevent as much crime as possible and is to maintain order, the police depend on the trust and approval of the public to do their job correctly and efficiently. Those are his two top ones but there are more principles. He wanted everyone to feel safe when outside or at home. He wanted the public to keep an eye out and watch for the safety of the community.
The father of modern democratic policy, Sir Robert Peel, who created the responsibility of law and order paid civilians to obtain that responsibility. Sir Peelian recognized the police force metropolitan in London, England in 1829. He proposed the principles to maintain efficient and accurate the safety and security of the community under the law. The principles made it important for success which were prevention of crime, gain trust from the community, gain engagement of the community, never go beyond the law or take the law in your hands, use only reasonable force with that being the last resource used after using all of the resources. “The police is the public and the public is the police.”
Police reform has become an increasingly critical issue in the United States over the last few years, particularly following several high-profile incidents of police brutality and excessive use of force against minorities. The police's use of force is a significant issue in many police departments, leading to serious injuries or death and undermining public trust in the police. Scholars and experts have called for comprehensive police reform measures to address systemic issues in law enforcement agencies and rebuild public trust in the police. One of the key issues in police reform is the excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.
Robert Peel was the British Home Secretary who played a major role in getting the English Parliament to pass into law an act creating a central police force in London in 1829 (Bohm & Haley, 2017). In creating the police force, Peel also proposed ‘12 Principles of Policing’ (Bohm & Haley, 2017) that are still important to police agencies in current times. Listed below are each of the principles, a brief description, and why they are still applicable. The police must be stable, efficient, and organized along military lines- this implies that a police force should be organized with a command structure similar to that of the military.
The main reason we need police according the Peels first principle is to prevent crime and disorder. This is an important principle for all law enforcement. If the police did not prevent crime and disorder, then there would not be a reason for a police force at all. In todays modern
After reviewing Sir Robert Peel's nine principles of policing I believe all nine principles are still evident in modern policing. These principles of policing were created as a standard for initial modern police forces, however due to modernization of policing through technology and training, some of these standards have evolved to adapt to today’s standards of policing. Let us examine how these principles were the foundation for modern police forces, and the standards they coincide with today, beginning with Peel’s first principle. Peel’s first principle states the basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder (Dempsey & Forst, 2016).
Though present day police have been getting a bad rep, a police can be considered a present day knight as they are supposed to protect society and “save the day”.
Our whole lives we have lived under the creeping thought that us as humans are destroying earth’s ice caps and in turn all polar bears’ homes. But what if I told you that we have been told a lie our entire lives? If ones forgot about what news social media and highway banners say regarding global warming and open-mindedly looked at the “cold” hard facts that science and extensive research has concluded, then maybe my argument would not seem as brash as someone think. These scientific findings will prove to anyone reading this that global warming is the worst scientific scandal of all the time. I’ve also attached regions to be vigilant citizens and should realize how our world cube has been subjected in the global media message which has resulted
