Abi Blaz Ms. Wolter Period 1 3-21-23 Acting With Courage Tony Dungy once said, “Courage is the ability to do the right thing, all the time, no matter how painful or uncomfortable it might be.” Through the exploration of this unit, many characters have shown courage. More specifically, “The Terror” written by Junot Díaz, “The Friday Everything Changed” by Anna Heart and Rosa Parks best exemplify the quote by Tony Dungy. The short story “The Terror” by Junot Díaz relates to the quote because of how Junot acted with courage near the end of the story even though it was uncomfortable for him to do. After Junot got beat up he feared the two boys and did everything to get away from them. “My first real beat-down, and I was furious and ashamed, but above all else I was afraid. Rosa parks was a women activist who fought for black rights and refused to give up her bus seat to a white man on December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama. Because of this courageous act Rosa Parks got arrested and, even though the situation was uncomfortable, she still stood up for what she believed in and fought for her equal rights. Being an activist can be very risky and, in this case, Rosa Parks risked a lot, including her life. Segregation was very popular in 1955 and was very hard to live as a black person because of how unfair the laws were for black people in the U.S. Rosa Parks did many other things to fight for black rights such as the second arrest for boycotting. Because Rosa Parks was the dispatcher, she arranged all the carpools for all the people protesting and it was illegal at this time. Therefore, she got threats, discriminated against, and arrested. For Rosa Parks this was very uncomfortable and painful to keep on fighting when this was not a common thing to do. But she still fought with courage and did the right
