Actualized Leadership Profile Paper- Katniss Everdeen
Katniss as a leader falls under the Asserter leadership style. Katniss Everdeen is the 16-year-old protagonist in the book and film series The Hunger Games. Her story takes place in the dystopian nation of Panem in which she is from district 12. When it comes to motivation, I do not think Katniss originally sought out power prior to her becoming a tribute in her first Hunger Games, but this quickly changed. Throughout her time in the hunger games, she realized that the way to win was to hold power within the arena and outside it with sponsors. During her final examination she received the highest score of all the tributes, demonstrating how powerful of a tribute she was and that she was not to be overseen. Even with all of her growth I still believe that Katniss has room to grow when it comes to self-actualization. For this reason, I give her a medium level of self-actualization. Katniss at times can let her feelings take the best of her and does not think about how the decisions she makes impacts others. For example she played the love card in the games without thinking how it impacted Gabe her friend back home and how she would have to continue playing that game if she won even if she didn’t mean it. She was also about to take her life after killing coin who betrayed her as well. This would have had a huge impact on Peeta and Katniss mom who had just lost her other daughter. At the same time, Katniss is resilient even when faced through traumatic experiences. When Peeta is rescued from the Capital he hates and attacks Katniss. Instead of feeling betrayed by him, who by this point she loves, she understands that he was tortured and needs time to readjust. She is willing to wait for him and still continues fighting and being a leader so that they and everyone can have
