Consequently, this week’s interpersonal/relational wiki proves to have a strong focus on therapies that analyze the core of relationships. Thus, the similarity that stood out was the depiction of relationships. Most of the models rely heavily on a client’s relationship, either with self, family, or society. While each model focuses on one’s relationship/s, each model differs in its perception of where relationships fail, how they are empowered and what role the therapist plays. In Relational-Culture Therapy (RCT) the therapist empowers clients through growth fostering relationships; Family Systems Theory (FST) the therapist remains neutral and creates structure; Adlerian therapists model social behaviour; Gestalt therapists create space for
John Kaag begins his article by stating that the desire of any “good student” is to be told that they’re paper was “flawless.” He then goes on to recount his experience during the 9th grade of being told exactly that, and how when he told his mother, she became upset and decided to show him the error of his ways. He says that from this experience he learned the value of criticism. From this point on he talks about his first case of writers block and of how writing forces you to look inwardly.
Herman’s Intervention Model of Recovery Therapeutic healing according to Herman, 1997, is the most important thing a therapist brings into the relationship with a client like Kathy, who has experienced any form of psychological trauma, is the formation of a healing relationship. The client’s traumatic event has left him/her experiencing a disconnection from self, others, and feelings of disempowerment. Therefore, the primary principle for the therapist is to act as a guide or an ally in reestablishing empowerment in the client toward their recovery. Throughout the healing relationship the client develops autonomy/self-determination, a rebirth of power and control, and a new sense of self (Herman, 1997).
Section 1: Professional Development Plan For most of my life I have been motivated to help people so when I made the decision to continue my education at Walden University, I knew that I was ready for the journey. I am currently seeking a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am expected to graduate in the winter of 2025. This paper was written on June 30th, 2023, with the intent of further understanding my motivations for seeking this degree as well as visualizing the type of counselor I want to be in the future. Throughout this paper, I also discuss what is expected of me throughout my degree program, counseling career, and overall professional development.
The writing goes into extensive detail on Adler’s life to detailed descriptions on his theories. For example, throughout the piece the professor explains what Adler’s “theory of inferiority” means. How from as early as the age of 5 we begin to start feeling inferior to the people around us. How children all wanting to grow up is an example of this concept. Being in school, doing tests and always comparing ourselves to the person next to us who got a grade better than yours.
With the extreme demand, the field of anesthesia and nursing has flourished and continues to rapidly grow and become more and more competitive. Nurse anesthetists have played a vital role within anesthesia and surgery throughout the years. As stated by AMN Healthcare, “Nurse anesthetists have been the main providers of anesthesia care to American soldiers on the front line since World War 1.” (2023) After the war, many of the nurse anesthetists were religious leaders or nuns and helped provide anesthesia to patients that were facing surgeries, or recovering from war. As a CRNA, it is expected that they always just help surgeons in operating rooms, which is partially true, but they also provide medications, check in on patients, provide epidurals,

Alfred Adler's work focused on the significance of supporting sentiments of having a place and striving for superiority. He held equality, civil rights, mutual respect and the progression of democracy as the mainstay qualities. He was one of the primary experts to give family and group counselling and to utilize government funded training as an approach to address community well-being. He was among the first to expand on the social determinant of health and of emotional well-being.
A brief comparison between narrative therapy and family therapy will also be given. Overview of the two theories Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is best known for being used by Michael White and David Epston. Narrative therapy commonly involves a shift in focus from more theories that can be seen as traditional. A collaborative approach is often encouraged and the therapist is also encouraged to show special interest and listen respectfully to the client’s stories. The therapist should also avoid diagnosing and labelling clients but rather enable the client to often separate themselves from the most dominant story of their life to provide a space where alternative life stories can be created (Corey, 2014).
As a therapist it is important to know the different types of therapy and choose the ones that fit best with you. Adlerian Therapy is also known as Individual Psychology. Therapists must access their own internal process such as their feelings, attitudes and moods. Therapists’, who are not receptive to the awareness of their flow of thoughts and feelings, will not be able to help clients be aware of theirs (Kahn, 1997, p. 40). Though congruence does not mean that therapists have to share personal issues with clients, a therapist must not conceal their inner process from the client, and not be defensive but transparent (Kahn, 1997, p. 41). By being open sometimes a therapist learns more not only about their client but about themselves
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
