After continuos trials at getting Alvin to get rid of the horse stools, he finally fulfilled his parents command. My job was to ensure the students were following the correct steps and stopping and correcting any mistakes. It was important to educate them on correct infection control protocols to reduce potential risk for cross-contamination and instill good habits from the beginning. I also assisted in helping them identify oral landmarks and tooth numbering. Research training conducted at the University of Florida, Malone and Brown University has developed an attitude of commitment and independence. Lastly, being a student has instilled the value of dedication, strategic planning, persistence, and commitment. Additionally, clinical experience has emphasized the importance of details, proper documentation, consistency, problem solving and team-work. I came to this conclusion through my shadowing experiences with a perfusionist at a nearby hospital. I was taking medical physiology at the time of my first shadowing, and it was cool to see some relations. But I realized that he knew so much more than me, and he started talking about the base excess levels and how that related to the pH level in the blood stream. Though the second time reassured my drive to pursue perfusion as a career, I was still very curious to learn more of the problem solving process that occurs during the operating room.
