“ In my will it will one day be written that nothing is to be engraved on my tombstone but ‘Adolf Hitler’, I shall create my own title for myself in my name itself” (Marrin, Cover). Hitler, by Albert Marrin, explains that Hitler ultimately did make a name for himself, but not a very good one. He is known as the initiator of World War ll or the person who began the biggest genocide in history. Starting off as a young creative boy, Hitler found joy in art and eventually tried to become an art major. One obstacle he faced eventually created a life of fear as he lived in the shadows while also struggling with the challenge of poverty. Going into the German Worker’s Party, Hitler had no intentions of evil. Then he learned he could speak in public very well and took the path of destruction with this talent. This obstacle pronounced that Hitler was not the typical heroic figure many want in society. In the start, “He began attending meetings… He realized he could speak in public… He worked to mold the German Worker’s Party into a weapon that would make him dictator of Germany” (Marrin 37-38). Hitler was determined to make Germany his and take over as a dictator. Being able to speak in public brought him closer and closer to this goal every single day. His powerful speeches about anti-Semitism drew in thousands of people that believed that he was the future and nothing could stand in his way. Eventually, when Hitler discovered his talent, he used his persuasive words to sway the opinions of the people in the audience. It has been said that “ No speaker in modern times could match his talent for winning over masses of people” (Marrin 39). While Hitler could use his talents for good to make Germany a better place he instead used it in his effort to become dictator of Germany. Many people said, “ Yet the source of Hitler’s growing influence remained his ability as a speaker… many wonder why they’d been carried away by his speeches. It was as if they’d been hypnotized by a magician, an evil genius with supernatural powers” (Marrin 39). This is the main way that Hitler built his empire, he drew people in with his speeches and most would follow him. People say he put them under a spell and many people left being loyal to Hitler.
