Advancements in weapons have been happening since the beginning of human history. The nature of humans is to always have a bigger gun than another person, and because of this it has brought about many new technologies that have helped and hurt humanity. The result of a war is almost always in favor of whoever has the better weapons. Dozens of new technologies were introduced in just WWI, and dozens more in WWII. Most people think war is the worst possible thing that could happen, and while it is, we still find important discoveries and new technologies because of a war. Underwater listening devices made it possible for the british navy to locate and destroy German U-boats. Underwater explosives, which created a powerful shockwave capable of sinking ships in near vicinity, were also developed.Warship became faster and more powerful than ever before. Radio allowed for effective communication between ships.
WWI set the stage for WWII, which gave rise to more new technologies and earlier weapons used in other wars were furthered and made better. First, after being invented in WWII tank received major upgrades. Tanks were made much faster and had better armour, they also had more firepower with the addition of heavier cannons and heavier machine guns. New missiles were developed during WWII. First called “buzz bombs”, cruise missiles could hit a target many miles away with surprising accuracy. The V-1 missile called an “automatic missile” was automatically guided to a target where it would devastate the surrounding land. Next, the V-2 missile would be shot into space where soon thereafter it would fall onto its target with similar devastation as the V-1. Both the V-1 and V-2 missiles were used to bomb london during 1944-1945. Radar allowed for the military to see past obstacles and detect planes from very far away. However, since this was new at pearl harbor, when they saw the japanese planes they didn’t believe it, so it didn’t help until they realized that it was right. This technology helped a lot more later in the war because submarines could detect German boat and shoot them down before the Germans could even see them. Radar also prevented any more surprise attacks as they could see it coming from very far away and counter it before the enemy had time to react. Today, radar is used heavily in every military and presents a major advantage to countries that are defending because it is easy for them to see attacks and react to
