In Chapter 9 of the book “Major Problems in California History” the authors use the key term “Hollywood” which is known as the “film colony” where movie stars lived and played. The author uses the term “Hollywood” as life in a movie by stating, “The existence of “Hollywood” as a residential community proved that the kind of life depicted on the silver screen could be found in reality.” Also, the author uses the key term “Hollywood” as a glamorous version of the American Dream by stating, “Ordinary people became acquainted with the movie stars’ opulent lifestyle through stories and photographs in fan magazines. Another way the key term “Hollywood” could be considered is as a resort city also named “Hollywood” located in southeastern Florida.
California Gov. Jerry Brown signed an amendment covering libel retraction and damages last month, creating the consistent treatment of print and online publications. Assembly Bill 998 replaces the term “newspaper” with “daily or weekly news publication.” This alteration extends libel protections to online daily or weekly publications which were not protected under the original legislation. Section 1 of AB 998 states “it is the intent of the Legislature to ensure that weekly and online publications are afforded the same protection under Section 48a of the Civil Code as is afforded to a daily newspaper to the extent that the weekly and online publications perform the same news-disseminating function as a daily newspaper.”
In the essay “Trapped in the Community College Remedial Maze,” Mikhail Zinshteyn suggests that developmental courses in community college are a problem because they do not “move [students] closer to earning a degree” even though they are mandatory (3). Zinshteyn considers that there are studies that prove that remediation courses prevent students from “succeeding in college” (3). Zinshteyn claims that most students with good grades in high school are required to take “developmental education at the community-college level” (1). Zinshteyn implies that the most students have to take developmental courses because “they took a test that found their math of English language skills to be lacking” (3). The author notes that being told that you need to take a remedial course can be demoralizing, especially when you think you do not need it (qtd.
The United States uses many different governance styles. California’s style has much diversity and a very large size. The size has led California to a more complex system. California, a state rich in natural resources with a long coastline, was a very ideal piece of land to many. As such, when America gained California, there was conflict over how it should be admitted into the union. The 36 30 line meant to dictate which slaves were slave or free split California in half. Eventually, California was admitted as a free state in the Great Compromise of 1850. This compromise allowed California to be admitted as a free state while also revising the Fugitive Slave Act, which now required US citizens to aid slaveholders by reporting all runaway slaves.
Hamad yousef May 9 /2018 Homework 4: The US constitution gives only certain powers to the federal government while the rest of the authority lies with the state governments. Due to recent political upset and turmoil in the United States government, there has been a growing movement among some California residents that their state should secede and form a new country. However outlandish this idea may seem to some some individuals, secession may actually prove to be more beneficial for California citizens in the long run. There have already been a few proposals for how to split of the state of California in order to make it more governable. However, these ideas simple chop California into pieces rather than addresses the root of the issue. However, even if California and its constitution are democratic in the basic sense, the state government does not necessarily provide a good government for its population. The large population and area of California require a strong government. Unfortunately, the state constitution fails to provide an adequate government. The constitution covers an extensive area of legislation but tends to over-correct their issues according to the times. The ease of passing legislature through the branches creates so many laws that the constitution is getting too big to be effective, hurting its ability to govern.

The Early College High School (ECHS) model is an innovative concept that allows a predominantly low-income, first-generation minority student population obtain a high school diploma, an associate’s degree, and a baccalaureate degree in six years. The blending of instructional approaches of a traditional high school with those of a two-year college enables ECHS students to reduce the time it takes to earn a baccalaureate degree by two years. As a result, graduates of this model obtain a high school diploma and associate 's degree in four years. The associate degree credits (about 60 hours) are then transferred to a four-year university, where the ECHS student is automatically considered a junior in college, and is able to graduate with a baccalaureate

Violent imagery is quite key to the strategies of propaganda in the Cold War. As mentioned in the earlier post, both sides based their propaganda on the criticism of the opposing ideology and state. However, the more extreme strategies were employed in raising hostility towards the opponent among the population and in the world. One of the examples is the period of ‘Hate America’ campaign that showed a lot of aggression towards the US, for instance, as in the course of the Korean war communist propagandists were accusing the United States in torturing the prisoners of war and using biological warfare. Every year students are given the opportunity to do dual enrollment which would save them hundreds to thousands in college, but most miss their chance and are required to take remedial classes in college. According to statistics, “Complete College America reports that almost 50% of the students entering 2-year colleges are required to take remedial classes. ( Rath Par.15)”. To further explain, due to students not taking advantages in high school are required to take remedial classes they most-likely took in high school and pay around triple the amount.
