In Dennis Baron’s article, “Who Owns Global English?”, the author addresses the way English is being adapted around the world as well as why some countries wish to put a stop to it. This is centrally focused around a campaign for Spanish-English schools in Madrid hosting the slogan “yes, we want.” All languages change as the number of speakers grows; the English language is no different. Baron provides several examples of this growth from “Engrish” to slogans such as the one used in Madrid (36). This may be bad English, but Baron is considering the possibility of it becoming a new form of English.

Effects of European Expansion In the 1400s, the age of exploration began with countries sailing around the seas in search of new land, trade routes, and goods/resources that could help their nations prosper. In the 1440s, the Europeans became more motivated to become explorers due to their navigational skills and their ship designs becoming more advanced from contact with other powerful nations who were exploring such as China. Their other big motivations were to spread the word of God, to become wealthier from extracting gold, and to become more powerful in general. These motivations are what inevitably lead to the discovery of new trade routes to other countries and completely new lands like the Americas.
The question that arises is how they know they are on the right track with they way of thinking with this so-called lifestyle or idea because I understand many Jamaicans are not confused. I view Jamaicans to be much like the Planet Uranus, No one knows its trueness, and it functions on a different beat. Much like people view Jamaicans as confused about a lot of things particularly about their own language that they are not able to differentiate between speaking English and speaking Jamaican. This is simply one of the challenges they face in getting persons to accept the fact that the Jamaican language is a real language and not simply a "bad" or "broken" form of English. The three main influences that are affecting “America’s English” language would be Technology, Cultural diversity, and slang. Technology is very influential in “America’s English” because it is both used frequently and used globally. Majority Americans have some sort of connection with technological devices; whether its using a computer, having a smartphone or even watching television shows.
