Ella Fitzgerald open the doors of entertainment to many African American women. Living in the sixties and being African American wasn’t easy, especially being a woman. Having a dream under those conditions were close to impossible, but when you have a dream you just simply go for it, cause at the end of the day you never know what would happen if you never went for it. Fitzgerald growing up was no stranger to heartbreak and tears. She lost her mother to a car accident at age fifteen and was left with a problematic father who abused her. Despite what she went through she turned to singing because it was the only thing that kept her together. She went from singing and dancing on the streets to performing in the Apollo theater and the Harlem
