Statement of Purpose: I want to find out the enormous struggle for African Americans to gain access and to get the rights to public space and other components of life that everyone else got. This paper should uncover how African Americans have had an immense amounts of drawbacks and struggles in order to get the rights, freedoms, and equality that others had; but I want to also uncover how successfully overcame those drawbacks and oppressions.
Background: African Americans have had a tremendous amounts of success in American history over many years, but they have even more setbacks for them to be successful like slavery, lynching, segregation, ⅗ compromise, Jim Crow Laws, etc. All of these I mentioned are all different ways the US government …show more content…

I am using the source “historynet.com” to write about the general history of African Americans in America. I will be using “Knowing their Space” to write about mainly to discuss the impacts of the Jim Crow Laws had on African Americans . I am also using the article “Cultural Oppression and High-Risk Status of African Americans” for one of my sources to discuss cultural oppression African Americans received. Another source will be the book “The Forgotten Fifth” to write about African Americans during the different revolutions in the United States and to discuss what the African American did to achieve their success. I will be using “The American Dream- For All Americans”, which is a scholarly article discussing the desegregation of the town of Levittown, and I will correlate this article to my paper by writing about ways in which African Americans one did not have access to public space (Levittown) and what they did in order to gain the rights/accessibility of public space.
