The Age of Exploration brought many changes to western european nations such as France, Spain, the Netherlands, and England. This was a time for expansion, education, and war.. The age of explorations lasted from the early 15th century and continuing into the early 17th century. During this time many advancements in technology and education were made. New trade routes and resources were increased worldwide and with this came the enslavement of African countries. However, many chances in european society must occur in order to lead Europe into the age of exploration, all of which will be discussed throughout this paper. With each nation battling it out for the top place, trade routes and alliances were popping up everywhere. As these nations are reaping their new land we see a significant rise in slave labour within this time. Using slaves was the easiest and most efficient labour source for european nations, and even became a means of trade along with the rest of the natural resources. The well known triangular trade is the transatlantic slave trade, that operated from the late 16th to early 19th centuries, carrying slaves, crops, and manufactured goods between West Africa, American colonies and the European nations. West African leaders would trade slaves in exchange for European goods. A trader could start in North America, selling their natural resources to european nations while picking up manufactured goods. Then, they would sail down to Africa and trade the goods for slaves. Finally, they would return to North America to trade the slaves for more natural resources. Because currents and trade winds made this route quick and efficient, this became the most profitable pattern for traders. As more traders began using the triangle trade, demand for natural resources rose. This caused two changes in the economy, more land was needed to make more natural resources, and this called for more labor to work the land, ultimately growing the demand of more slaves. Both bad and good for the as a whole. New trade routes were founded and along with them new and amazing resources, some of which lead to a dark time for the native inhabitants involved. This quote by Christopher Columbus however, sets the mood for Europe during the Age of Exploration, “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination.” The european nations lived with this enthusiasm and excitement and it powered them through these violent and competitive times. This was the starting point that has forever changed the world into what it is today. Near the end of the exploration is the beginning of a new chapter in history, and with is progress. Works cited
