Many characters in the book prevented their destination by lying about their age, while other unfortunately were not able to. Ageism is currently still a problem.

In modern society the work force, mainly consists of middle aged-old age employees. The reasonings behind this change is because as the life expectancy rises, so does the age of retirement and employers requiring a higher level of education for an entry level position. As employees realized the costs of living had risen and that they'd live longer, they figured that they’d need to retire at a later age than before. This prevents positions from opening for other job seekers. As the demand for employment rose so did the expectations of employers.

Sam’s life has always been very proper, disciplined, and well-mannered. She lives with her mother and one sister in a perfect, spotless house. Jase’s life is total opposite of Sam’s, and Sam’s mother, Gracie, does not approve.

Much like sexism or racism, ageism is unwarranted treatment and discrimination of people based on prejudices revolving their ages. Ageism can be as simple as derogatory words like geezer or take on a more impactful role when seniors are met with emotional or physical abuse. Finally, ageism takes form in the general belief that the elderly are useless, weak, and can’t think straight. Unlike sexism or racism ageism is deeply institutionalized into our society to the point where most people don’t think it’s a problem or don’t even know that the problem exist. (Raynor, 2015) Even though ageism can be found almost anywhere, it’s incredibly prevalent in healthcare.
In the United States; we have an aging society. An aging society is when the median age of a country increases due to rising life expectancy and declining fertility rates. In the year of 2050, the number of older people will increase by a substantial amount. Mostly, it would cause a major impact on my time as an adult and during my entirement years. It will also impact on others future by family, economics, government, and religion.
For my interview, the aging individual is a person I have known my whole life. Though she is not blood related, she is considered family, and an important person in my life. I chose her because I have seen her go through the aging process in a positive, and inspirational way. She has defied the norm that a woman needs a man in her life, yet she has lived her life without being in a single relationship. I have structured this interview to make it more like she is telling me her story.
Ageism is discrimination or prejudice based solely on a person’s age, an extreme issue in many elderly clients that reside in sheltered housing communities, as well as quality of life. Bodner, Cohen- Friedel, and Yaretzky conducted a study involving awareness and beliefs about ageism and quality of life in sheltered housing versus those feelings in seniors who live outside such an environment. It was anticipated that that seniors within sheltered housing would have elevated agist attitudes. To test this hypothesis, they took a sample of one hundred twenty six volunteers between the ages of sixty four and ninety four. The contributors completed a survey called the Fraboni scale of ageism, and a Quality of Life (QoL) Inventory.
The second method that females attempt to use for constructing their gender identities is related to the biological aspect of their bodies. Females start employing their bodies as a signifier for their female identities by forming their personal awareness of their gender abilities and their sexual orientations. The biological manifestations that are ascribed to body allow human beings to shape their gender identities; they become aware of their gender roles and abilities that their bodies have including their sexualities. Human body in a certain way achieves a coherent unit of human identity. The body can be used as a tool for constructing gender roles and thus gender identities.
Stereotype is a thought or an unfounded belief that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. Age stereotyping is commonly known as AGEISM. Ageism makes judgments about the actions, character and desires of people based on their age.
Millennials are a part of demographic cohort causing changes in the workplace. Individuals born between 1980 and 2000 are considered Millennials .They are currently the largest generations that will be joining the workforce as Baby Boomer are starting to retire. In a few short years, Millennials will soon make up about 70% of the workforce, however their generation has stirred up some controversy as they start their careers and enter the workforce. In recent times, there have been issues arising in organizations with multigenerational workforces due to the differences of each generation.
And, they must be prepared to make organizational changes to accommodate the differences productively. There are difference strategies that organizations can use to cope up with age discrimination in the workplace. Implementing strategies that place older people in positions best suited to their ability stereotyping them. Finding the ways to make technology friendlier to older people as this can enhance the workplace experience for an older population.
