Society Society has always been a changing aspect of human advancement. “Mad Men” a show based in the early 1960’s, follows the life of Donald Draper, who is a prestigious ad man for a successful advertising agency. Society has changed in aspects such as women’s roles, average age of employees in the workforce and technology. Society has changed since the 1960’s. In the 1960’s women’s rights were just starting to be seen as an important progression step that had to be taken. In the show ‘Mad Men” majority of the women are seen having the low end jobs such as the secretary positions. This was the works of a lot of employers, who viewed the higher positions as belonging to men and women being encouraged to pursue maintaining her husband's household as their primary purpose. In today's society work forces are mostly very diverse in the gender aspect. Modern society is also near accomplishing closing the gender gap wages, that are in still in favour to men but not as much as it was back in the 1960’s. In modern society the work force, mainly consists of middle aged-old age employees. The reasonings behind this change is because as the life expectancy rises, so does the age of retirement and employers requiring a higher level of education for an entry level position. As employees realized the costs of living had risen and that they'd live longer, they figured that they’d need to retire at a later age than before. This prevents positions from opening for other job seekers. As the demand for employment rose so did the expectations of employers. Jobs started requiring a higher level of education for entry level jobs, this caused young employment seekers to stay in school longer. In the 1960’s it wasn’t as hard as it is now to get a full time
