There are many ways in which a person grows to become who they are. Many would argue that it is their family and their own beliefs and perceptions that make them who the are. Others would say that it's their own choice to be who they are. According to the beliefs of sociologists this isn't exactly the case. Sociologists believe that their are multiple forces within our world that affect your social, personal, and perceptual self in which shape and form the person you are today. These outside forces are known as Agents of Socialization (Epplen). There are 6 common agents that play a tremendous role within our everyday lives, and we might not even know they effect us at all. Families can support you or tear your down depending on your family's values and state. While I was growing up I learned a lot through my family. My parents got divorced when Me and by brother were young, and I left my father when I was 16 because of specific issues. I learned a lot about my personal values while comparing myself with my dad. It helped me shape myself to become a better person than he was. I learned a lot through my brother and mother as well. I can see how their traits have shaped me to become a more focused and confident person over time. Both of their hard-headedness has really gave me the perception that being tough in the world can benefit you alot aswell since I had always been softer and quiet. Mass media is designed for one thing, to get to everybody one way or another. TV, Radio, Newspapers, etc; they all have something to say. Throughout my life I can see how mass media changed my perception of the world. I feel like the more I watch the news the less hope I have for humanity. I feel the news idolizes a lot of bad things that's happening around the world and doesn't talk enough about the good things. I feel every time I switch on the news I hear another story about a shooting, terrorist attack, or a murder. Advertisements can also play big role in society.
