I chose to discuss a juvenile program called Aggression Replacement Training (ART). This program concentrates on the development of an individual’s ability to address various emotional and social aspects that contributes to the aggressive behavior in youths. The program’s techniques are specifically designed to teach youths how to control their anger impulses and take perspectives other than their own. These techniques are used in hope to prevent youths from acting towards aggressive actions and deviant behavior. The program relies on repetitive learning and training techniques to teach the participating youths how to control their impulses and anger. Allowing them to choose to use more appropriate and acceptable social behavior in hope to repress their aggressive impulses. In addition, the Aggression Replacement Training program aims to guide the youths in group discussions to help try to correct their antisocial thinking. The Aggression Replacement Training program consists on three supporting components. All three of which, come together to promote a comprehensive aggression reduction program. Those three components are the Structured Learning Training, Anger Control Training, and Moral Reasoning components. During the program implementation, the youths are required to attend a one-hour session each week for each of the three components. Each of the components focuses on a specific prosocial behavioral technique. Structured Learning Training focuses on action components. Participating youths are required to bring to each session one or more descriptions of their recent anger arousing experiences. Over the duration of the program, youths are trained to use specific skills to better control their angry impulses. The third component is called Moral Reasoning Training. It focuses on the thought and values components. This component is intended to address the reasoning aspect of aggressive behavior. It is specifically designed to enhance the values of morality in aggressive youths. The techniques in this component allow participating youths to learn to reason in a more advanced manner. Regarding subjects such as, moral and ethical dilemmas, providing youths with opportunities to discuss their responses to problem situations, and taking perspectives other than their own that represent a higher level of a moral
