Al Capone did this, then got out on good behavior in six and a half years, then returned to his home in Miami. With this paper, I'm trying to prove that Al Capone was the most influential and powerful gangster in Chicago ever. I think Al Capone was the most influential and powerful gangster because he ran gambling, prostitution, and bootlegging rackets and expanded his territory by gunning down rival gangs. Capone went to Chicago where he became an influential lieutenant in the Colosimo mob. Al Capone gained a lot of experience and expertise from the mob. In 1925, Torrio was severely injured in an assassination attempt and he retired from the gang and returned to Brooklyn. Capone had built a fearsome reputation in the gang rivalries and was promoted to leader. His reputation grew as rival gangs were being eliminated by the capone mob. On the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre on February 14, 1929, seven members of the Moran mob were machine-gunned against a garage wall pretending to be police. The Capone mob was blamed for the massacre, but Al Capone was in Florida at the time of the massacre. The bureau, a government agency, started investigating Al Capone. He was sentenced to one year with a 5,000 bond and got released. On May 17, 1929, Al Capone was arrested along with his bodyguard in Philadelphia for concealed carrying deadly weapons. Within 16 hours, they both had been sentenced to one year. Capone served his time and was released nine months later for good behavior. On February 28, 1931, Capone was found guilty in federal court on the contempt of court charge and was sentenced to six months in Cook County Jail. His appeal on that charge
