The most notorious gangster was Al Capone. You might ask yourself who is Al Capone? Alphonse Capone, also known as "Scarface", was born on January 17, 1899 and died January 25, 1947. He was one of the most famous American gangsters who became famous as the leader of the Chicago Outfit.
Al Capone rose to leader of the Chicago gang during the Prohibition Era, which was when the United States had a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, import, transportation,and sell of alcoholic drinks. This Prohibition Era lasted from 1920 to 1933. Before being sent to Alcatraz Prison in 1934 for a tax evasion conviction, he had amassed a personal fortune estimated at $100 million as the head of the infamous crime syndicate. Al Capone was born in Brooklyn Massachusetts, to an immigrant family. His dad was a barber and his mom a seamstress. Al had a total of seven brothers and sisters. They immigrated here to the United States from Italy. His parents immigrated here to live a better life and to offer their children a better future than what they could do in Italy. There was nothing in Al Capone’s childhood that would make anyone think he would become a famous gangster. Al was a decent student up until he reached the sixth grade. Al was the one who dealt with land negotiations between rival gangs and territory wars. Most of these negotiations were solved by an extreme amount of violence.
