Al Capone: the American Gangster Legend
“You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone”- this is a quote Al Capone said and a quote that represents him completely. He was a gangster around the Prohibition Act of 1919 and the Great Depression era. For being one of the greatest gangsters of all time he was a kind guy, but he was not scared to use his gun. With the business he was doing, killing people was something that came with it. Al Capone is a legendary character; he is notorious for his upbringing, his gangster activity, and the years he spent in prison.

Hopkins refused to admit him based totally on his reputation, but Union Memorial Hospital took him in. Grateful for the compassionate care he received, Capone donated two Japanese weeping cherry trees to Union Memorial Hospital in 1939. After a few weeks inpatient and a few weeks outpatient, a very sickly Capone left Baltimore on March 20, 1940 for Palm Island, Florida.
In 1946, his physician and a Baltimore psychiatrist performed examinations and concluded Capone had the mental capability of a 12-year-old child. Capone spent the last years of his life at his mansion in Palm Island, Florida. On January 21, 1947, Capone had a stroke. He regained consciousness and started to improve but contracted pneumonia. He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest the next day. On January 25, 1947, Al Capone died in his home, surrounded by his family. He wаs buried аt Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
Most people know Al Capone as the “untouchable” Chicago gangster who spent many years in prison. I personally know that there is more to Al Capone than just being a gangster. When people think of gangsters they think of all the negative things. He actually cared about the people around him. He took good care of my great grandmother when she was his neighbor along with the other neighbors. Al was one of the real gangsters and one of the best gangsters of all
