Alfonso Capone was the symbol of the prohibition era lawlessness. Born to an immigrant family, Capone had a rough start. He started his career in a gang and it ended in Alcatraz off the coast of California. Throughout his life he committed murder, helped in a massacre, and went to jail a number of times. Al Capone’s childhood led him directly into the gangs and a criminal career, and set him on the path for the rest of his life. “Born to an immigrant family in Brooklyn, New York in 1899, Al Capone quit school after the sixth grade” (“Al Capone”). He posted $5000 bond and was released” (“Capone, Al”). It took four seizures before he finally quit crime and left Chicago. Next, Capone was arrested, but for concealed carry and he went down with his bodyguard on May 17, 1929 and was released nine months later to the day (“Capone, Al”). Again Capone was arrested on February 28, 1931 and again it was for contempt of court, although this time the “charge was subsequently dismissed” (“Al Capone”). The final time Capone went down the court prosecuted him to the furthest extent the law would allow. The U.S. treasury themselves led …show more content…

He suffered from paresis which he got from syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease, which he contracted at Alcatraz (“Al Capone”). Paresis is a partial paralysis caused by muscle weakness. After Alcatraz, Capone never publicly returned to Chicago. ‘he had become mentally incapable of returning to gangland politics” and while having the mentality of a 12 year old, after being examined by a Baltimore psychiatrist and his physician (“Al Capone”). Capone finally died on January 25, 1947 “due to a stroke and pneumonia” (“Al Capone”). Capone faked the same disease that would later take his
