Chapter 10 is about the Folk Psychotherapy of Alcoholics Anonymous ( AA) by L A. Alibrandi. The focus of the Chapter is “detailed examination of the relationship between the sponsor and the new comer. A.A. sponsors help others to achieve and maintain sobriety. I like the statement of an AA member “Drunks get sober every morning, or every time they go to jail or a hospital, but in A.A we learn how to stay sober.” (Zimberg, S, et al pg. 165).
This affected the whole family. This little boy lost his baby brother, and the parents lost their baby child. To imagine making the decision to take your baby off of life support, knowing that he will not make it, and none of it was your fault. In conclusion, driving drunk does not just affect the driver that chose to drivedrunk. It affects the people they hit and sometimes kill.
The group that this writer attended this week was an Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) open group that consisted of thirty-two individuals. The date of the meeting was on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. The group started out with one facilitator opening the meeting up. He read the serenity prayer and covered the 12 steps related to the premise of A.A. This took no more than the first five minutes of the meeting. One of the members then took the floor and spoke as the featured speaker talking mostly about how his life has been turned around since joining A.A. and that life couldn’t be better.
Americans know the dangers of getting behind the wheel while intoxicated. When alcohol enters the human body it impairs your judgement. Your speech begins to slur, the overall control you have on your body vanish because your balance and flow are altered by the alcohol entering your bloodstream. But yet the court systems lets them off with a simple slap on the wrist , like a mother to a child. What happens when that “first time offender” , loses their sense of knowledge of how to drive a car.
However, “90% of drunk driving deaths in the United States were found in the over 21 age group” (Gruenewald). For this reason, drunk driving is not directly correlated with the drinking age. In addition, the percent of drunk driving deaths in the United States has reduced at a slower rate than European countries where they have their legal drinking age at eighteen. This suggest that if lowering the drinking age was a success in Europe, it may also be effective here in the United States to diminish the amount of drunk driving deaths. This is because people that become injured due to alcohol or alcohol poisoning are afraid to report their injuries to the hospital or authorities out of fear of illegal consequences for underage drinking.
I met a new client, KEN PETERSON, this afternoon. Ken is a 6’3’’, 220 pound, 48-year-old freelance photographer and writer. Majority of the time he works from home in New Rochelle where he has been living for 20 years. Ken has never been involved in litigation of any type, has no prior convictions, and explains that this was unusual circumstance because does not normally have fights with people or get into trouble. He is unmarried and without children, but spends his free time playing guitar and training for and participating in marathons.
I think the case study is very realistic. One interesting point is that the father doesn 't think he has a drinking problem, but he went to AA meetings. Maybe the father just doesn 't want to admit it 's a problem, but from his inner heart, he starts to seek for assistance because his drinking problem starts to affect the children. Lyness and Fischer (2017) state that "alcoholic parents are at higher risk for having children with behavior problems, and children’s behavior problems may increase parental stress and lead to more drinking." Because the father becomes violent after drinking, so the wife and children keep distance with him, which make them lose the sense of security, trust, and respect.
To meet the needs of the client, more information is needed that was not outlined in the assessment. Additional information is needed regarding the seven year break between noticeable depression symptoms since her first diagnoses/episode to her current episode. A questioning assessment would be completed in order to see if client had recurring symptoms that went unnoticed during the last seven years or did she use coping skills to assist with any symptoms. It would be important to gather more information on her use of learned coping skills during recent depressive episode. I would also gather more information from Suzy, why she decided to not start back on her medication after the birth of her child.

Today in the United States about 4,358 people under the age of 21 years old die each year from alcohol-related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and even drowning.
