Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi Botticelli was a man that was a wonderful artist. The works that he was able to create within his time period impacted the artwork, as well as reinforced the renaissance movement of the time. Botticelli was able to create art that used vivid detail and skill, as well as imagination and lush creativity. His appreciation for beauty and for creating majestic compositions is known worldwide. He knew how to work color in a way that transcended above and beyond. His fine skills, craft, and use of color, composition, new ideas, value, and use of great detail is his works, makes him a creative genius and master of his time. His less formal name, which was his nickname, was Botticello, meaning, “little barrels.” His brother, Giovanni, gave this nickname to Botticelli. He was the youngest of a family of five children. Botticelli’s father’s job was a tanner, who struggled and was poor. Giovanni, Botticelli’s older brother raised Sandro as a child. He was a stockbroker who was quite successful. Little is known of Botticelli’s growing up and personal life. It is said that Botticelli was a weak, semi-sickly as a child growing up. What is known however is that Botticelli became an apprentice as young lad. He was taught the craft and trade of goldsmith, which his father allowed him to do so. His older brother, Antonio taught Botticelli how to master the craft of goldsmith. Seeing as how this was the case, it is speculated that Botticelli received an education that was richer and fuller than the norm.
