Some people don't realize there wasn't always a way to communicate from a long distance, and others wouldn't understand how difficult it was not to be able to have this advanced technology we do now. The telephone became extremely important in the history of communication and became very successful in little to no time (Imagining Internet). The telephone includes a power source, a switch hook, a dialer, a ringer, a transmitter ,and a receiver. One of the first telephones that were invented was the candlestick phone. It was separated into two pieces, the mouthpiece (which stood upright) and a receiver (placed by your ear while talking on the phone) (AEA- Telephone). There was also many lawsuits expressing their feelings about the company having “monopolistic practices.” With all these lawsuits thrown at Alexander, he still managed to keep making fixes to the telephone and also winning all of the lawsuits (History of the telephone). Alexander was tremendously interested in the science of sound because his mother and his wife were deaf. Alexander and his father worked at a school for the deaf.
