Did you know that Alexander the Great was one of the greatest conquers? Alexander was born in 358 B.C. and he lived in a kingdom in Greece called Macedonia. Alexander was the son of the King Phillip II, and Alexander became king. During his life, did Alexander show enough leadership, courage, and concern for others to be considered great? By these measures, Alexander was great for at least three reasons: military genius, inspiring leader, and spread of Greek cultures.
Alexander would have been a hero would he have lived twice his age. Plutarch notes that Alexander tamed Bucephalus a horse that Philoneicus gave his father as a present by and thought it was wild and untameable. Ideally, the single act indicated that Alexander had the skill of handling issues that most people think cannot be contained and this would have made him a hero (Source 1). Quintus indicates that the talk between Darius III and an Athenian exile indicates how magnificent the Macedonian army was under Alexander the Great.
Without their trust, Alexander would not have achieved as much as he did. These examples show that Alexander was great because they provided insight into what Alexander achieved. He had to work hard to gain the people’s trust. It all paid off when he was able to say that he was the greatest leader of his time. Today, everyone wants a trustworthy leader.
Alexander the Great was a successful leader and tactician. Even though he was successful in these departments, we don’t see much of his politician skills being used. Alexander the Great, born in the northern kingdom of Greece, Macedonia, is easily one of the most famous people in history. Known for conquering most of what they knew as the world, Alexander accomplished a lot. From leadership, to tactics he used in battle, Alexander the Great was a successful man.

However, it is my opinion that he is a villain. I believe this because he could be an extremely violent leader and because he never fully reigned over one of the places he conquered/ruled. He is a villain because he murdered thousands of people and soldiers from different nations. Alexander tortured many of his victims and then he killed them.
Alexander was a great military general. “Over eleven years and twenty-two thousand miles he never lost a battle and he faced the toughest enemies of his time” (“Smith 1”). This shows how great he was in war and battle. He defeated the Persians who were the biggest empire at the time. He was also outnumber by a lot in his battles against the Persians.

The reasons that people call Alexander a villain is because he killed and sold more than six thousand people, destroyed Thebes so that other city-states in Greece would be afraid of him., and said no to “uncivilized” customs.

He was very tolerant of foreign religious practices and even adopted customs from other religions. Intelligence, bravery, and leadership, are all characteristics you look for in a hero, that’s what Alexander the Great is but, is he really great or just a power hungry king.. He was destined for power and started his strike in Asia Minor, this strike led him to take over most of Europe. Alexander was a great leader that used his intelligence and bravery to take down civilizations. Alexander was an intelligent leader that used his strategies to take over most of Europe in only 11 years, that is including the 3 most significant territories, Egypt, Greece and Persia (DOC A). He was very intelligent because out of all of his territories he took over, only 5 of the territories had a battle with him.
