Alexander the Great was one of the fiercest warriors in history. He was strong from the beginning of his life and extended this strength into many successful battles. Although he killed many for land, the influence of his empire changed the world for all time. Born in 356 B.C., Alexander was the son of King Phillip ll of Macedonia. He was a fearless youth from the beginning and seemed destined for greatness. It was said that a specific wild horse could not be tamed. Alexander calmed the horse, mounted it and rode it successfully on the first try. This strength of mind and body would prove very helpful in future battles. Alexander’s father, King Phillip, was involved in battles that would extend and define the Macedonian borders. This union of many peoples into one continued when Alexander, becoming king at age 20, went after his father’s dream to defeat neighboring Persia.
