I discovered that mathematics, positive visualization, optimism, knowing how to learn, seeking support from others, self-esteem
Honestly I like writing and reading and hearing people’s take on a text. This class, which was filled with all of that, however I did not like and my attitude clearly reflected that. Every student learns differently and personally no matter how much I favor the subject, I vibe off of my environment. My table mates. The life of the class.
I like Math class because it's all makes sense to me and has things to back it up, while other classes sometimes just wiz right by me and I get confused. I do marching band and I play the trombone. My older brother is a senior and he is also in band and he plays the saxophone.
In 7th grade, I transferred from Bryan Middle school to Visitation Catholic School and there was not enough room in the accelerated math program, which ultimately set me behind. In high school, I found myself bored in math and knew I needed to challenge myself, so I ended up setting up a meeting with the math department head and we discussed my options. Sophomore year, I ended up taking two math classes, which was not easy; double the test, quizzes and lessons! However, by taking two math classes, I was able to get myself into a higher math class which ultimately was my goal, and achieving it was an amazing feeling.
While still in high school, my favorite subjects were always creative or hands on. My favorite class was ceramics. I enjoyed it because it gave me an opprutunity to do something thoughtful,
The Odyssey is a good example of how epic poetry is defined by archetypes. It was written by Homer and is about the journey that a man named Odysseus takes to find his way home after the Trojan War. The Odyssey and its characters are highly impacted by archetypes, or character traits that are created and recreated throughout literature, such as the companions, the evil figure with the ultimately good heart, and the loyal sidekick. Odysseus’ men were the Achaeans that fought with him in the Trojan War.
That year I had only gotten one B, and the rest were all straight A’s. This year, I am in algebra and Level One ILA as well. My stronger point in my whole knowledge is my math skills and my memory. I can memorize countless information, in fact, in fifth grade I made an Academic Bowl Quizlet which had over 150 terms!
As a child I always desired to study math and science. There is just something about solving problems, and finding solutions that catches my attention. Learning about the world, and how it function is very interesting to me. These subjects have help keep me wondering what I could learn next, and the reason being that I am a scholar in my classes. One accomplishment that I am proud of is being on the A&B honor roll.
psychology would be my most challenging. All though it my favorite subject it’s not an easy class. I have a really hard time with the terms used in psychology. I got a D on my first text which was very depressing, but now I know what to expect and I now know what kind of notes I should be taking.
My misfortune in math later helped me realize that I needed to change my outlook on school. Instead of dismissing a subject just because I was not good at it, I would rather try and identify what I was doing wrong, and work to fix it. Taking the the ACT engage test helped me realize what my academic strengths and weaknesses are, and how I can use this knowledge to capitalize these strengths so I can be more successful in college than I was in highschool.
I’m only taking 5 classes this year, which makes my life a little less stressing. My toughest subject this year was probably Economics. It was something different, a new experience. I was introduced to a whole new level of vocabulary and it was tough to memorize. I also did horrible in the tests, but I was able to push through that
Math has been one of my favorite subjects and I really liked Algebra this year as well. Although Spanish was the hardest class I have ever took, I learned it is fun to learn new languages. It may sound weird but, running has become something that I like to do and I am trying to start a habit of running everyday. Reading books has become one of my main pastimes this year because of the reading that we did in English.
I find that the beauty of math is in the process, and if students learn to care more for that instead I think they will understand more math. While being stressed is definitely my biggest weakness in math my biggest strength would be conceptualizing problems in new ways. Often when I was in college of high school when math becomes more complex and there are more than one way to solve the problem I would enjoy exploring that. I would try and look for the most effective way to solve problems it helped me to avoid the trap of getting the right answer being the goal. This is something that has definitely got stronger the more math I master.
