Ray Bradbury and Richard Connell create the tones of jealousy and mystery to motivate their characters. In “All Summer in a Day,” Margot tells her classmates she has seen the sun and her friends become instantly jealous. Connell, in his story, indicates how Rainsford is determined to find civilization on a deserted island. They both have different concepts but overcome the same meaning. Bradbury writes, “They had written small stories or essays or poems about the sun” (Bradbury 1).
One similarity emerging in both stories is that the antagonist are jealous of the protagonists because they are different. In “All summer in a day,” the children are jealous of Margot and her memory of the sun beating on her skin. They all sat at the window beaming like a full moon. "You’re lying, you don’t remember ! " The children would often say to Margot as she tried to explain what the bright sphere.
In “All Summer In a Day” and “If Only We Had Taller Been” both by Ray Bradbury he illustrates many themes throughout both stories. One theme they both have in common is don’t let anyone get in the way of your dreams. Bradbury does an excellent job of displaying this theme in both stories. While these stories have their similarities they both have their differences. The theme of “All Summer in a Day” is to not let your jealousy get in front of your kindness.

Summers have an air of relaxation to them for most people, but for me I can barely find a moment's rest. Because I work in the hospitality industry, summer is the busiest time of the year. My apartment is a 3 minute walk from the beach and yet I only rarely get to enjoy it. Although there are days, there are precious days, when I can just stop and smell the ocean.
