Summer Reading Assignment: Lord of the Flies As the world commemorates 25 years since the end of the Second World War, people all around the world recognize and condemn the atrocious activities that occurred, and offer their support to the victims of the genocide. However, there is one particular person who was not prey to the Holocaust or the horrific activities of the Nazis under the rule of Hitler; rather he is a survivor of a unique event occurring at the same time as World War 2. General Jack Merridew, now 37, is one of many boys stranded on an uncharted island without adults after a plane crash at the dawn of World War 2.
An allegory is defined, in Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, as a story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for truths in human life. With that in mind, you can better understand William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies. This fictional story can be viewed as one big allegory, where almost everything and everyone seem to represent and have a deeper meaning. Like the island the boys get stranded on represents the whole world, all the characters and objects on that island are used to convey Golding’s social, political, religious and psychological ideas and themes.

Informative Essay The Lord Of The Flies is a great book filled with events that have hidden messages. There are many allegorical connections that you can make in these hidden messages or symbols. The literary term allegory means a representative of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms. The most important symbols that make up an allegory in this book are piggy's glasses, the island, the beast, the adults and the conch. All the symbols in this story signify the world and Golding tries to find a way to compare or relate it to the real world.
The moral refers to the ways the Bible tells us to live our lives. The allegorical, however, reveals how people and events in the Old Testament point forward to the people and events in the New Testament. The stem of the word allegorical comes from the word allegory, which is the hidden meaning behind events and people and symbols in literature. Allegory can also be split into three groups: social, political, and religious. The story begins with an edenic symbol presented to the boys after the plane crash.
William Golding uses the theme that humans are naturally bad at heart, in the book Lord of the Flies to highlight that without the order and respect we choose to live our daily lives with our human nature will ultimately take us into chaos and savagery. Morals are what we choose to live by, this is what keeps us accountable. Morals do not appear overnight. Overtime they are ingrained throughout our childhood. Giving us a sense of right and wrong.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a novel about young boys being trapped on an island, and how they behave when they are isolated from society. The story begins after a plane crash a group of schoolboys are left on an island. Two boys on the beach blow a conch shell to gather all of the boys on the island. There are both Choir and school boys on the island. A choir boy named Jack wants to be chief so all of the boys take a vote and Ralph is elected chief, because he blew the conch shell.
Golding indicates that power is wanted in the boy’s new society, this is presented first in the quote “if only I could get a pig” (pg. 55) indicating that hunting and or the hunter is the more powerful person or the “bigger man”. Another example referring to the importance of power and tying in with the quote above is on (pg. 53) “If you’re not hunting, you are getting hunted.” These quotes are in part summarizing that if you are not hunting you not a man and therefore you will most likely not last on the island. I also feel these statements are stating that you need to do your part to get to the position you want.
A dark optimism is when good things happen, but they might have worse consequences. It means that there is always an underlying possibility in life going south, or declining, although the fundamental belief is that the good, or what one believes is good will prevail. In the 1955 novel, Lord of The Flies, the author William Golding’s overall message, which is that humanity has an underlying evil, or savagery to them, and without order, or societal rules, this savagery will reveal itself, is conveyed through dark optimism. However, there are three extremely important occurrences where Golding’s ‘dark optimist’ approach to this novel are revealed.
Golding says “The boys broke into shrill, exciting cheering” (41) in the beginning of the novel, then at the end of the novel says, “A great clamor rose among the savages” (164). William Golding who wrote The Lord of the Flies changes his word choice from “boys” to “savages” to emphasize the fact that the boys change into savage creatures. Three symbols represent civilization and change into chaos over the course of the novel. The three symbols representing change are Piggy’s glasses, The fire, and the conch. These figures demonstrate the important theme that the calm civilization will soon break out into disorder.
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a classic, a hard one to set in a genre as well, some might say it is a thriller/adventure book others may say it is a fiction/horror story but whatever the definition, it is definitely an awe-inspiring novel. The story starts off with a fair haired boy walking towards a lagoon in what later is discovered to be an uncharted island. The boy, Ralph finds himself amongst other boys stranded on this piece of land without the presence of adults, after a plane crash left them there.
Lord of the Allegory The novel Lord of the Flies is described as an allegory novel (Carter). An allegory is a text which contains many things which are symbols and have a deeper meaning. Some examples of items in the novel that represent a deeper meaning include the conch shell which represents law and order, the beast which represents the savage instinct within humans and the pig hunts which represent the need for power.
Once upon a time, in a small house lived a boy with his parents, his name Jack. Jack was 10 and he is the only child to his parents. He had a strange wish which is flying like a bird, wished to have wings flying high and see everything from up. Jack spent most of his time at his room, playing with different paper planes. He has a big box, in this box he collected different types of planes and kites and some he made them by himself.
The different types are social, political, and religious. These types of allegory dictate what happens in the story. The story “Lord of the flies” is about school boys who are trying to get away from the war in their home country. As the boys are flying away they are shot down and crash on an island.
